How The Britten Institute came to be

John Britten is a name that conjures up a picture of a dyslexic man who laboured against the accepted way of doing things. The development of the motorcycle was John’s way of being noticed in a world that did not yet value cognitive diversity. Imagine what he could have done if he’d had the chance to live his real dream and put his mind to solving challenges on a global scale, from New Zealand.

Our desire is to develop a John Britten programme to help dyslexic learners, not to change the way they think, but to gain the skills and confidence to participate in solving today’s big social and environmental challenges. We want to see more value placed on those who don’t fit the mould.
